This bouquet is going out to this SPCA staffer, who went out of his way to climb into a deep canal, just to rescue a hurt bird.

Ahmad said, in an email to STOMP on Oct 16:

"I would like to thank SPCA for rescuing an abused pigeon in distress at Jurong West Street 71. I am an animal lover, so whether it?s a pigeon, mynah or any other birds, its still an animal which have feelings.

"It was tied to a large plastic bag, making it unable to fly off. I was thinking about taking it out, but I was scared to and it kept running away.

"That's when I thought about calling SPCA, although I'm not sure if rescuing a pigeon is one of their call of duty.

"I would like to specially thank the indian rescuer, didn't quite get his name, for rescuing the pigeon.

"This wasn't just an ordinary rescue to free the bird from the plastic bag, but a dangerous one.

"While waiting for SPCA to arrive, I tried to keep up with the pigeon which was trying to fly high but unable to do so. But it accidentally fell into a deep canal.

"Once he arrived, I told him that the pigeon has fell into the canal. He took his ladder, which wasn't long enough to reach from bottom of the canal to the top, and went down, although it was very very dangerous as the ladder is in a 90 degree angle. He finally managed to capture the bird and set it free.

"I'm very impressed with SPCA as they will do anything just to free even a pigeon.

"I also would like to express my dissapointment to several people who saw the pigeon in distress but act as though nothing happened. How can they do that? Would they like to feel having their legs tied to something and no one helping them?"
