The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is appealing to Singaporeans to stop dumping animals.
Let us all stop to think about how we can help reduce the number of unwanted pets and strays.
In 2007, the SPCA took in a total of 9,487 animals including 3,002 dogs, 4,716 cats and 1,314 domestic small animals (rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, etc). Half of the dogs taken in were pedigree. This is an alarming figure, and proofs that owners were simply not ready for the commitment of owning a dog.
The SPCA hopes that more care and thought will go into the ownership of an animal - it is a lifetime of commitment, not to be entered into lightly. It is better to deprive yourself of owning a pet, than to discard it when you don't have the time to look after it. And pet owners are reminded to have their animals sterilised to prevent unwanted litters being born.
Let us all think of the animals and remember that they do not deserve to be dumped like unwanted rubbish.
Too Many Unwanted Animals!
As you can see from the table below, the number of animals SPCA received had little change over the years after we welcomed the new millenium. It may be just figures here, but they represent the animals' lives in reality. So, please help the SPCA to bring the numbers down. To find out how you may do so in various ways, check out the links on our website.
